My surgeon was George Peck, Sr. and he came very highly recommended...his particular type of tip graft is called the Peck Umbrella Graft vs Sheen's, which is, I believe, called an Onlay Graft. Both doctors methods are used by many surgeons. Dr. Peck's graft supports both the columella and the tip of the nose....the columella graft goes up & down...the tip graft goes across from right to left. I'm not as familiar with the Sheen graft...I gotta believe that whatever method is used, as long as it is done correctly...it'll look good.
My first surgeon used a small section of my left ear to repair a collasped nasal valve (thankfully, he left enough cartilage in that ear, so that if I do need another graft, the doctor will be able to harvest enough from the left). Dr. Peck used almost all the cartilage from my right ear...that ear cannot be used again. Dr. Peck's graft was done more for cosmetic enhancement than anything else....we thought that my nose needed more definition and projection. Just not as much as it wound up having!!!!
I never needed grafting in any other areas of my nose...I had alot to work with in the beginning (I had a really big nose), and neither surgeon ever removed too much. I was lucky in that respect....
