: My husband and I went through the same kind of discussion after our first child was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis at the age of 4. We decided after a LOT of anxiety to have another child and we were so lucky to have a beautiful healthy girl. We had made a decision to have prenatal testing so that we could have any appropriaate medical staff on call at delivery . We decided ahead of time not to terminate any pregnancy because of a positive CF test (not that I would judge anyone who did) because we believe that ultimately this disease will be cured (We have to believe it to get up in the morning!) We are also extremely fortunate in that we have a lot of people who support us and good medical insurance. Our girls are now 10 and 4 and we feel like we made a great decision!!!!!!!
After our daughter was diagnosed last year, my husband and I decided that we would not take the risk and
: have any more children. Luckily we already had another beautiful little girl before Taylor was diagnosed.
: We had always kind of wanted 3, but 2 is fine. I am really wanting another one but I don't think I would
: forgive myself if that one had CF too - I mean knowlingly bringing another child with a serious condition.
: I was just wondering if anyone out there went ahead and had another child after having one diagnosed. I
: would love some input.
: Heather Mom to Taylor age 3 and Jessica age 1.5
