: : : hello, my 8 1/2 year old son has cf and was diagnosed when he was between 5 & 6 months old. As most of you already know sometimes our kids have ailments that are not expalined by their doctors. So my question for you is do any of your children have leg aches? Jesse (my son) sometimes has leg aches so bad that he has to take tylenol when going to bed and just lays their crying until the tylenol takes effect. In one of the cf books I got from the doc. it mentioned leg aches but the cf doc. hadnt heard complaints of it before and he didnt seem to put it with the ussual cf problems. I just wanted to know if anyone else has noticed this before. I do know that it can be part of growing up but my two older non-cf boys did not have this kind of pain.
: : : Thank You, Tina

: : Tina,
: : I haven't had experience with the leg pains but maybe it's a potassium deficiency? I think you can get leg cramps, etc. from lack of potassium. I read one of your messages to another mother regarding developmental delay and you had said Jesse had serious problems with absorption. Maybe he has a problem absorbing potassium.

: : I am just a mother throwing out a suggestion. My son is 9 months old tomorrow and we have been very lucky with his case. I don't have experience with alot of CF issues and that is why I read this message board - to learn what to look for.

: : Good luck with Jesse. I hope he gets better soon. I hope if the leg cramps are CF related you'll post a note.

: : Thanks!

: : Hi. My name is Tom. Im 33 y.o. with CF. I have the chronic leg pain you are talking about. My doctor explained that is could be early signs of arthritis. It could also be a vitamin B deficiency. I take extra Beta Carotine, which seems to help some. The only thing I find that relieves it is Ibuprofen and hot baths.

MY 4 year old had some pains just recently....
enuf where she told the DR... I didn't have to, and she dreads going to the DR.... they noticed some tightness and swelling... but it ran from the lower let up.... nothing physically was wrong... thought maybe from just being rough and tumble... nothing CF related to their knowledge as of yet... My Pedi attends all the CF conferences and hasnt seen that one yet....we are now talking of growth hormone injections.... that is the latest from the conventions... am TOTALLY checking that out before we start.... so, who knows... the pains could have something to do with the normal growth being somewhat stunted, or SOMETHING/// we are still looking at that one...
the leg pain comes and goes... Let me know if you find anything out......
Kristy
