: : Could a sweat test give an accurate result for a person who has many symptoms of CF and in underweight?
: sweat test, as far as I know are accurate, however, a DNA test is by far the best test, this is done by swabbing the mouth, a very easy test typically done at your hospital.
My son had a negative sweat test in Dec 98 at 18mths of age. He presents numerous signs/symptoms of CF & I asked his pedi for another sweat test & he assured me that it isnt necessary due to the high rate of accuracy. I explained I just couldnt sleep with the on my mind & he order another sweat test. It was done yesterday & the results? Borderline! Not negative & the pulmo docs as well as our pedi have no explanation why the results are anything but NEG b/c; it is believed that one NEG always NEG. So he is now having the "Buckle (sp?) Smear" done --- swabbing the inside of his cheek. Results will not be available for 14 days however. Good luck!
