: my friend is 29 and just diagnosed with cystic fibrosis. how is this possible? she didnt have it last year.
: what are her chances of survival.
Just to set the record straight, I hate to have to tell you but your friend DID have CF last year! In fact she's had it since conception. It is an inherited disorder one gene from each parent. Survival? Considering she was just diagnosed at this age, she must have a very mild case, she's very lucky. I have 2 daughters w/CF 19, and 14. The 19 yr old is quite ill, the 14 yr old is doing very well. The current "life span" is in the 30's, but it varies GREATLY. Your friend could live forever or may get hit by a bus tomorrow, just like ALL of us. Tell your friend not to give up! There's alot they can do to help. I would be happy to give any "tips" I have discovered through the years, please feel free to e mail me. Take care, and Keep the faith! Lisa
