: My daughter was identified as having CF when she was three days old. She is now four months old and I continue to have many concerns about her future. Although she is currently healthy (she takes enzimes and vit. as well as CPT twice daily) and her lungs are clear - I still worry everytime she coughs.

: I am interested in what other parents do during flu season. Do you take your children to see relatives for Christmas or do you stay home? What do you do about traveling? Have you ever taken your child on an airplane (our clinic recommended we avoid air travel in the winter due to the RSV virus)?

: Thank you for any advice you can give me about making it through the winter.

Lisa,
There's no such thing as caring too much for your child. Don't worry about worrying and don't worry about stepping on toes, be they family or friends. Our son is 2 1/2 and has a similar story to your daughters in that he has been very healthy, with clear lungs. In the past during holidays or family get-togethers we just did our homework and made sure everyone was healthy before we went. If there is opportunity for him to catch a bug, we avoid the situation. Family are disappointed at times but would far rather have him healthy and celebrate with us a week or a month later, than have him put into a risky situation.

As our doctor explained to us, these first three years are very important--when your daughter is four, five or six and comes into contact with flu bugs, etc. she'll be better able to deal with it (and better able to tell you about her aches & pains).

Get your flu shot, get her flu shot and avoid closed in public places that are crazy busy during the holidays (grocery stores, malls, wal-mart, etc.) We don't keep him in a bubble, we're just cautious and it has really paid off.
Good luck and happy holidays a bit early!
