: I was wondering how many if any have ever filed for Social Security or any other Long Term Disability. I am interested in what you encountered during the process & what criteria you were filing under. My husband & I have to make some difficult financial decisions & any input from you would be greatly appreciated. Please respond to me at rksmith@catskill.net. Thanks!

Hi,
My daughter has CF and she was diagnosed at 9 months old. At that time my husband had just changed
jobs and so his insurance had not come into effect. Even when it did however there was a prexisting
clause that wouldn't cover my daughter. To try and make a long story short I was working at the local
hospital at the time. The girl that did medicaid there had told me i should try to file just to see what
happened i thought couldn't hurt all that could happen was a denial. Well we got on the Medicaid not
SSI just normal medicaid like through the DSS. Well it soon ran out and so I filed for SSI for my child
she was denied twice and I had to get a lawyer. We had a hearing and everything and the judge ruled
in our favor so we started to recieve the Medicaid card and the SSI check. I didn't care anything about
the money only wanted insurance coverage for her. Well you have to turn in all your income, life ins. policies,
everything almost except the color of your underwear. :) well anyway i did this every year just as I
was suppose to. Never hid anything and was always upfront. Well anyway she has now been covered
under my husband ins. and lost the SSI due to the fact that my husband now makes (supposedly)
too much money and we have life ins. policies so she is now off... but they are saying that they over
paid her 9000.00 plus dollars and we owe it back.. Well needless to say it isn't my fault they couldn't
do their job. I haven't had to do anything about it yet but I know I soon will.. I will fight it tooth and nail
we have 3 children and I can't fathom us paying back this money especially when it wasn't our fault.
As for as Long term stuff goes I don't know much about it. I would just be careful whatever I did because
nothing that our government does or offers is really without a catch... hope this just puts some insight
into your journey...Best of Luck and May God Be with you Penny
