I am a 30 year old man with cystic fbrosis. I have a couple of vague answers for you, but can have more specific information for you if you would like it.
First, both parents have to carriers of the recessive cystic fibrosis trait. Even with both parents being carries, there is still only a one in four chance of a child getting CF.
Second, there are a number of genetic defects that account for cystic fibrosis. for example, my defect is caused by what is called the delta F 508 gene. Your defect might be different. However, last I knew, 75% of the CF population was caused by a delta F 508 defect.
I hope this is helpful, and I would certainly check the validity since I am stating facts from many years ago, and I am not a scientist. Well, I am a scientist, but not a genetic scientist anyway.

: I am in the 10th grade and I am doing a research project on Cystic Fibrosis. One of the questions in the project is if I had $5 million dollars, how would it help with the cure for Cystic Fibrosis. Also, what gene do you get this disease from and from which parent?
