here's an update:
i thought the tooth might be dead, and because everyone was saying get a root canal, i got one. guess what--no infection, no abcess, the nerve was injured but i think it had been healing the whole time (which was the reason why there was no pain). i am so sad and frustrated about this--perhaps in the future it might have abcessed but at this point in time it appears to have been doing fine. my story i hope will prevent someone else from getting an unncessary root canal. now iam in lots of pain. please, hold off on a root canal if the pain goes away--it could be years, i learned, before you actually would need one, or perhaps never. my best wishes for all of you out there suffering a similar situation.
