: so what do they do to you during the process? do they like put a million of instruments in your mouth and you need to keep it open for like 2 hours? it hurts after there done? does it hurt while there doing it? Will they knock me out before they start, or will I feel the pain as they go along? I"m 17 and I'm really confused right now.
: I think I should get them, but hearing horror stories have made me re-think this. you need to tighten it every week? geez.......
I just had braces put on last September, I am 19. When my wisdom teeth came in they pushed my teeth, and one of my front teeth was pushed outward. I had an over bite as well. My teeth were not that bad to begin with, just needed some work to be corrected. I dreaded the thought of braces but actually for me it was not that bad at all. They have instruments to hold your mouth open. The whole process did not hurt at all. I was out of there just under two hours and went straight to my classes at college.
I get my braces tightened every 5 weeks. He changes the wire and rubberbands and that does not hurt either. Only once in a while my teeth ache. When he puts on the new wire, it is tight and I can feel the pressure, but it's not bad at all. After about 9 months with my braces, i had two teeth pulled on the top to correct my overbite. Now I am on the home stretch, my front teth are alreay straight and not crooked anymore. We are just trying to line up my bite. At my last appointment I was given rubberbands that you attach to your brackets to correct your bite and line up the bite.
Anyway, I was amazed with the whole procedure. It barely ever hurt, including get the two teeth pulled, and my teeth were straightened pretty quick. I don't know how bad your teeth are or if it will be this easy for you, but I am glad I got braces.
