I had a tooth filled just over four months ago and now it is causing me pain. I was eating pretzels earlier in the week and felt a sharp pain when I bit down and now I feel this constant pain in the tooth. The dentist did say the cavity was a deep one, but does that mean that the tooth was weakened by the drilling and subsequent filling (resin, not amalgam). I think it's tooth number 20 (on the bottom left, a teeny molar) and now I'm afraid to use that side. If I go in and the tooth is cracked, what happens next? Also, is it possible that the filling has just cracked or come loose? And finally, should the dentist have told me to avoid certain foods or should they have used a stronger material?
