Back in April I went to the dentist for the first time in many years. Among other thing he replaced a large deep filling in my right rear molar. I went back a week later with a sharp pain when I would tap or bite down hard on the tooth. He told me it was red and inflamed but it was because I did not floss, and there was nothing he could do. So I lived with the pain for about 5 months. The pain from the biting and tapping has since ceased, it has been replaced with a lump and soreness directly below the tooth in question there is also some discomfort in my right ear. Is this possibly an abcess? Needless to say I am away on business and it will be a week before I can get back to see him. Will a cold compress or asprin help keep this in check until I get back? I should also add I was never in nor anm I now in extreme pain but I know it is there. Any advise is appreciated. Thanks, Lou
