: I am to have my wisdom teeth removed in a few days and I will be under IV sedation. How safe is this and what is the procedure like.
IV sedation are very safe, just make sure the DDS is liscienced to administer it.Preferrably a oral surgeon , not a general dentist. What you can expect is they will give you some nitrous first you will breathe that thru your nose, and that will help relax you, then they will place a needle in you arm , ( dont worry it wont hurt), some do it in the back of the hand, within a matter of 2 minutes you will be asleep and before you know it their waking you up to go home, you wont remember a thing. After you have fallen asleep they will numb your mouth for the extractions so when you wake up you will feel really swollen, some is from the numbness and some is from the extractions it always seems worse then it really is. You will not be able to drive home and they wont let you so bring someone with you.Go home and sleep for 24 hours , thats the best , also take your pain killers that they will prescribe before the numbness wears off, and follow the directions exactly. If it says take every 6 hours , take it dont wait until it wears off and then have to wait until it kicks in again. At least for the first 24 hours anyway. Some people have a higher pain tolerrence then others. Good Luck !!! you will be just fine
