Sounds familiar! I had a root canal a couple of years ago and had similar problems. Finally the dentist x-rayed the root canal (for the second time) and found an extra root which he had missed. The root was tucked in behind the rest and was difficult to see on a regular x-ray (so I was told. Removed the nerve from the root and everything was ok within a couple of days.
