: :): Hi guys. I find that half the time, after an extraction, I happen to come down feeling sick or get a cold or flu. I had a lower molar out yesterday and the dentist mentioned that it was easier to pull because the abcess had left the tooth a bit loose. I asked him if now the infection would enter my bloodstream and he said "no, you will be fine". I have had a full blown abcess before and he wouldnt pull it until I had 2 courses of antibiotics. What is the difference now?
: The reason why most dentist place you on an antibiotic before you have any dental work done when there is a infection present is because its difficult to get the patient numb. The anestitic is difficult to get past a abcess so they want to clear it up a little bit first .But today there is some really powerfull novacaines that can penetrate thru the abcesses so it can be done.It could just really be that your resistance is low from the abcess and you end up catching a bug of some sort.
