: : Hi, I went to my dds on Friday after not going for the past 3 yrs due to finances. He said I would need to have 4 upper molars extracted due to gum disease, he said they are loose and need to be extracted. I have only had one cavity in my life and no root canals, I have no pain and the teeth don't feel loose to me. Is there any harm in keeping these teeth and not extracting, I would prefer that I keep them even if they eventually fall out on their own at least I will have more time with them in my mouth. The worst part is he said that there are six more teeth that he feels will need to be extracted as well but the first 4 need to be done promply. I don't understand I am only 42 and at his rate of extraction I will need a denture soon. I have never even lost one tooth now he is talking about 10. Does this make sense, just a few years ago got a clean bill of health from same dentist.I asked if I can crown teeth to make them stronger but he said it is gum disease so crowning wont help and he wants me to see a perio dentist but feels it is too late for most of the teeth he feels need to be extracted. He even suggested have all ten extracted under sedation in the next few weeks. But said it will be at least 3 months before he can begin work on replacement teeth what would I do walk around with half my teeth missing for 3 months, this feels like a nightmare are there any options. He says no. Has anyone ever heard of such tooth loss in such a short time. Should I go for a second opinion. Do extractions hurt Help

: Oh you poor thing,I WOULD DEFINETLY go for a second opinion ,go see the periodontist first and see what he says . Three years is not a very long time to go after getting a clean bill of dental health and then having 10 teeth become so loose that they need to be extracted.Your perio disease can be without the teeth feeling loose though. If they are as loose from bone lose as the DDS says they are you should not have any problem having them extracted though. It should be a simple procedure. I hope things work out for you,Let us know after you seek a second opinion.

Thank you Bonnie, I think I will get a second opinion have an appt with perio doctor this week too. I am praying that I don't need extractions at least not 10 of them just the though has left me in tears all weekend. Sorry for posting so many times wasn't sure how to post first time.
