: I have a friend who had a root canal done years ago (about 15), and did NOT get a crown on it all of that time. About 5 months ago the molar did break in half, and rather than having it pulled, she found a dentist who "saved" the tooth with a crown. Now she is still having pain at times when she bites a certain way. She went to an endodontist who could not find the problem, but thought maybe there might be a low grade infection in the old root canal. She's discouraged at this point with the amount of money she has already spent, and if the root canal did not help, then there's that wasted money. She simply does not know what the best thing is to do. Please, any input would be appreciated. Thank-you! Sarah
Your post is a little confussing ,if she already had the RCT retreated and is still having pain, there could be a crack in the root structure, that always doesnt show up on a Xray.If she hasnt had the tooth retreated yet ,she has to trust her endodontist or go for a second opinion .If she does have it pulled she can always replace it with a bridge or an implant.
