In Reply to: wisdom teeth removed...now what? posted by stephanie on December 09, 2000 at 17:40:17:

Well, I just got my wisdom teeth out almost 3 weeks ago. Not being able to eat normal food was driving me nuts and to crying, also. So maybe I can help :)
My surgeon said to maintain a soft diet for 4 days, but that I should be eating almost normally by a week. I was concerned because my stitches didnt fall untill almost two weeks! So I actually didnt start eating normally untill almost then. I started on eating soft foods (but more solid then applesauce, etc.) Like noodles,or hotdogs, bread. Make sure not to eat popcorn or nuts for at least 2 weeks though. Eat what you can tolerate but try to stay on mush food for another couple days :)
As for rinsing, I was told to start rinsing with warm salt water (no commercial mouthwash) after 48 hours and as often as I could or at least 3 times a day. Hope this helps you and write back if you have anymore questions I will try to answer them :) Take care,it will get better.
