Two weeks ago I had a root canal done on an upper molar(3rd one out of 3). The tooth had been prepared for a crown and developed pain and an abscess. An endodontist treated the tooth, and then replaced the temporary crown. Since the root canal was done, I have pain when chewing hard food, or when I push on the tooth. The dentist does not believe in treating with antibiotics, saying the body will absorb the abscess, etc. Because of a minor immune deficiency, I have been on doxycycline for a year, along with flax seed oil, evening primrose oil, & zinc to try and boost my immune system. Should I have been on something stronger for the abscess? (It apparently was in the tooth, but can one be sure from an xray?)
I also lost a lower molar (previously root canaled)several years ago that was badly abscessed - it ate away into my jaw before it was discovered. I had the (last)molar next to it root canaled in May and the one on the other side is scheduled for a root canal in Jan. Gum surgery was performed next to these teeth in Aug and since then everything has hurt in that area. Could I have a latent infection that crops up when my immune system is down? My periodontist tells me my bite is off...I don't agree.
