In Reply to: HELP - can wisdom tooth be removed with local anasthetic only? posted by Melanie on December 13, 2000 at 16:31:11:
: If anyone can lead me to some relevant information, I would be endlessly grateful...I have a wisdom tooth that needs to come out, but I am breastfeeding, and REALLY don't want to have to stop because of drugs in my system!! I am under the impression that you have to get knocked out to have your wisdom teeth pulled, and that would mean no nursing for at least a couple of days. This probably isn't the place to find out about this, but I've been looking everywhere & finding no answers. Can anyone help??
You can have your wisdom tooth extracted without being put to sleep ,but yoy probably dont want to. Most oral surgeons dont like doing it either without putting you to sleep. It would really depend on how impacted the tooth is.If its already errupted or not. Talk to your OS and ask him.If the tooth is impacted ,you really want to be put to sleep. Maybe you can pump for a couple of days proir to the surgury and freeze the milk so you wont have to worry about that. I would ask your Ob or pediatrcian that question.
Good luck
