Hi, I had a partial root canal in July and because the nerve was so infected, they couldn't finish, so they sent me home with some type of medicine to "kill" the nerve. I never went back because I am so afraid of the dentist, my fault. Well the other night I had real bad pain in that tooth and it seemed to travel to the top back teeth too. I tried taking advil, tylenol, whatever it took and nothing even touched the pain. Needless to say I was up half the night in pain. When I woke up the next morning the whole left side of my mouth was swollen, the pain is no longer in my tooth, it is now on the side of my cheek and as the day progressed, the swelling increased and traveled down to my chin. I went to emergency last night and was told that I have an abcess and was given a prescription for antibiotics and tylenol with codein, my question is: When the abcess goes away, is the pain in my tooth going to come back, I guess I am not really sure what exactly an abcess is, so any advice on how to care for it until I get to the dentist is very much appreciated. Thank You and Happy Holidays!!!
