Hi Deborah,
I'm so sorry to hear about your paxil withdrawl. I am currently (finally!!) coming to the end of a slow weaning of the SSRI celexa. It has been horrific and I can certainly empathize with your situation. Your doctor should be shot (well, not really :)) for telling you to come off cold turkey.
While, in general, I would agree with Jennifer that weaning is the way to go when starting from scratch, I would (if I were you) take a look at your situation and decide whether you think that you can hang in there--now that you're already 2 weeks in. Weaning can be really helpful, but it will also take longer and will put you back on a drug (granted, only for a period of time) that you have already been off for 2 weeks. Also, there is no guarantee that weaning will result in a complete cessation of the withdrawl. Some people find that weaning a drug results in no withdrawl while others find that weaning still results in some pretty horrendous withdrawl symptoms.
Withdrawl, again in general, can take anywhere from 2 weeks to 2 months following your final dosage. It does end, but it can be brutal while you're going through it. If you can't take it anymore, then definitely go back up to 10 or 15 or even 17 1/2 mg. and start weaning more slowly. If you think that you can hang in there (afterall, you've already been clear of the drug for 2 weeks), I say go for it!! It all depends on your ability to cope.
Good luck darlin'
AJ
P.S. this board can be extremely helpful, in terms of venting as you go through the withdrawl process. When I was going through the worst of my withdrawl I posted several angry, ranting :) posts. There's always someone around to listen and "lend a shoulder". Take care!
