The answer to that question is in whether or not one wants to live in reality.
There is a difference between friends and friendliness. One can email those they personally know to be friends, or people they have not met and likely will not ever meet.
One may get friendliness over the internet, and encouragement and helpful information. But one is also anonymous, and able to present the front wanted and no one can ever tell the difference.
One cannot judge the person on what is chosen to be presented to the reader.
That is not a true friend.
