: michelle,
: : : : : : first of all, the fact that he put you on 60mgs to start i rediculous!!!!!!!! the avg dosage is 20, possibly 40, but not until 10 or 20 doesnt work. I feel your withdrawl pain I have been there. the touphest thing, is closing eyes really tight, feeling like your rolling in waves or something. almost feels like your bio rythms are slowing down. it passes in time. no more than 6 weeks. you will be fine. its just your brain readjusting to normal seretonine levels.
: : : : : : the tough thing for me, is that I just got back on it after being off for a year and its good for me, it works out fine, but the major site efffect I have is that it causes me to be terribly disconnected to others, when there speaking to me, trying to have a conversation, my brain ismoving so differently, that I cant really hear them all it is, is like, "blah, blah, blah" and I reply w/ "ok yea, thats great, too bad" I hate it. I hated it then, and I hate it now, butI'm stuck between a rock and a hard place. any, please help. Eric

: : : : : : I am an 18 year old girl who suffers from terrible migraines. After the doctors had fooled around
: : : : : : : with tests and medicines they decided to put me on paxil. I had no idea what paxil was usually
: : : : : : : prescribed for. Note that I had no problem with depression. I started on 60mg daily for my migraines
: : : : : : : and was told I'd probably be on it for the rest of my life. I said as long as it releived my pain I
: : : : : : : would take it. I've been on it for a year and a half and I have experienced numb limbs nausea
: : : : : : : and extreme depression with every missed dosage. I have developed an unexpected unwarned
: : : : : : : addiction to this medidine which makes me long for the days where I had migraines without paxil
: : : : : : : Even when I don't forget a pil I can not awake without constant assistance and I can sleep for days
: : : : : : : without even waking up. It has interfered with my life so bad I wish my neurologist would lose
: : : : : : : his liscence for prescribing this horrible drug to me without explaining it more. now I have just been
: : : : : : : weened off of it(it took a month) and I am experiencing withdrawal that seems like it would
: : : : : : : mirror withdrawal of a narcotic addiction. I have only been paxil free for 2 days and am already
: : : : : : : unable to work or function like a normal teenager. not to mention sudden depression that was
: : : : : : : nonexistent before I started taking paxil. Please email me if you have any advice.

: : : : : just a follow up for the both of you. The depression meds are like double edge swords, as are most all drugs for all illnesses. From cholesterol meds to
: : : : : antibiotics there are going to be some drawbacks. While the depression meds are helping you feel better eric, they are also going to be causing a few possible problems such as
: : : : : your disconnected feeling. You may want to ask your doctor to titrate your dose down a little to ease off this problem. Once the serotonin is free flowing in your brain it can feel free to
: : : : : go to any site it wants, no one can control that aspect of the medication. You begin to feel happier, more stable, but yet there are a few drawbacks at times. There are many ways to handle these more
: : : : : unpleasant effects but you need to talk to your doctor and he needs to do a little research to help you out. Hang in there. No one has to be on these meds forever and new advances are always coming out.

: : : : I have just heard of this drug Paxil and I have been desperate for something to help me for 20 years. I have always been extremely shy to the extent that i now avoid all social situations including parties with freinds and family. Consequently I am becoming withdrawn. I have a good job and now progreesion to management is being hindered by my avoidance of meetings or conferences and I would rather die than give a speech or presentation in front of a crowd of strangers. I am well adjusted otherwise, i dont have depression and i am not suicidal, but i am so frustrated and inhibited by this totally irrational fear. I know its irrational but it grips me totally. I would love to be fully confident in these situationds as i know i have much to offer socially. I have tried councelling and assertion courses but its all useless if your brain chemistry just doesnt function that way. I would like to try Paxil but I know if i go to my doctor and request it he will reject it and tell me to pull myself together or seek psychiatric help!! I would have accepted this 20 years ago but it doesnt cut it now. Please please can anyone direct me to a doctor whon will let me try this medication. Thanks for your time and patience. John
: : : John, I don't know if Paxil is the answer. I was placed on Paxil for depression and panic attacks. However, I do not suffer from shyness. After being on Paxil for 3 months, I have had many bad side affects. Yes, it did help for my depression. But it helped by making me not care about anything. Instead of feeling my problems I just would go through the day without really caring about anything. I also go through tired spells where I will sleep for several days!! I am usually a pretty high energy person. I also have been gaining weight and constantly yawning. I am now trying to ween off of Paxil and the withdrawels are horrible. I am so dizzy I have fallen down several times, once down the stairs!! I am now going to try to solve my depression and panic attacks through natural remedies, such as excercise, eating well, and writing my thoughts down in a journal every day. I truly believe now that I can heal through connecting my mind and body and finding the answers from healing unresolved problems and pains from the past. I feel that shyness for you may be a way that your body is telling you that you have unresloved issues. By healing them through finding these blocked emotions and getting them out of you, I know you will feel more connected to yourself and others aound you. Paxil is not the answer, it just covers up and pushes the feeling that need to come out of you even deeper down. It is also a very, very powerful drug with side effects that are not worth it!!

: : Well, one thing is for sure - this drug is the most aweful drug I've ever been on. The Dr. put me on this Paxil for breathing problems - I think she thought I was under stress. After being on 10mg for 9 months - and still having occassional breathing problems, I've decided to go off the drug. Not without much suffering. You certainly cannot just stop taking it - you must WEEN yourself off. I would suggest all people trying to get off this drug to start by cutting the pill in 3/4 for a week - then cut pill in 1/2 for another week - a 1/4 in another week - and 1/8 then cold turkey. I did this with very minimal dizzy side effects. I had some, don't get me wrong - but not as many as if you tried cold turkey. The problem with this drug that the Dr. failed to tell me is that A. you're numb to certain emotions - you just don't care, you do gain weight - even if initially you lose 5 lbs - not worth the 20 you'll gain later, and you can't just go off the drug. GOOD LUCK TO ALL!

:
: CAN ANYONE TELL ME IF YOU'VE EVER EXPERIENCED A HEAVINESS IN THE CHEST FROM USING PAXIL. MY FRIEND HAS HAD MOST OF THE SYMPTOMS SHARED BY OTHERS BUT THIS ONE WE HAVEN'T HEARD OF AND SHE HAS BEEN TRYING TO GET OFF THE MEDICATION AND IS NOW IN THE HOSPITAL EXPERIENCING THIS HEAVY FEELING IN THE CHEST. THE DOCTOR IS TRYING TO WORK WITH HER TO SEE IF IT IS THE MEDICATION OR SOMETHING ELSE. SO ANYONE WHO CAN ANSWER THIS QUESTION, IT WOULD TRULY HELP. THANKS!!! NIKKI

:To all the people concerned about Paxil;
I have had a horrible opportunity to watch a loved one suffer. I am not on Paxil, but I hear your pain. The ups and downs have turned her into a person that I cannot recognize. Some people may be meant to be shy. Why try to change Gods will with a money drug. You all feel that you were happier before. I feel that doctors are giving it out like candy. Recently, people I have known for many years very well broke it to me that they were
also on Paxil. I have felt for months that they had come across a change. They are different now than the people I knew for twenty years. Knowing this now says that there is something wrong. I am a depressed person. I have even thought about the drug for myself. Talk to your loved ones. The ones who truely care. Open up to them, they know you. Do this instead of opening up to a complete stranger that has a ph.d on the wall which allows him to prescribe this to you. Know that the only change that you need is one in your heart.
