: I've been taking 20mg of Paxil off and on for the past three years (anxiety and panic attacks). The main problem I have with Paxil is the lack of sleep. So to counteract the sleeplessness, I've also been prescribe 50mg of Trazodone. Well, I really don't like having to take one medication to offset the effects of another (plus the cost is quite expensive). What I'm hoping to do is take St. John's Wort instead of the prescriptions. Does anyone have suggestions, recommendations, success or failure with St Johns Wort for anxiety and panic attacks?

Going on, then off a med usually means it's less effective the next time around. I'm still taking Paxil after several years, though even that can go on to a poop out effect. Trazadone, even half a tablet, knocks me out, so I've gone back to good old benadryl types (diphedryl Hcl) for sleep and have cut back on all the caffeine I used to drink.
Lot's of people have good results with SJW. You might want to check out one of my favorite resources, Healthnotes Herbal Encyclopedia, to see if it might conflict. And always ask your pharmacist about everything--they have it all memorized! Hope this helps, Beth
