: Hi Everyone!

: I'm hoping that someone might have some positive experience to share with me. I went on Prozac almost a year ago and it works beautifully. But I have gained 30 pounds, which really isn't acceptable. Then I tried taking nothing at all and that didn't work either. Now I am on Zoloft and am finding that I am very, very tired and very weepy. I have had my thyroid checked (thanks Beth) and everything is ok. Has anyone else had any weight gain problems with SSRI's, and if so, has a switch to another AD helped to reduce the weight. How long should I expect to wait before I see results? Thank you.

Unfortunatley weight gain can be a side effect of SSRI's. They don't know if it increases your appetite or actually alters metabolism. However many people who gain on these medications later realize that they have been eating more.
I found that when I first went on Prozac I was much hungrier and my appetite was definitely bigger. I gained about 20 pounds. I blamed it on the medicine but it was helping me a lot so I decided that was the right thing to do. I started to workout regularly and eat healthier and I began losing weight. I eventually lost all of the weight I had gained, while still taking Prozac.
