There are many anti-depressants; however, to find the right one sometimes you need to do a trial and error. I was first put on Celexa and had a very bad reaction to it. I am now on Zoloft and I feel much better. Either way an MD needs to prescribe both of these medications, and also needs to monitor them. Yes, it can be fairly pricey. I too do not have health insurance, and I have had to pay out of pocket ($150 for the first visit, 100 for follow-ups which are about every month or so, and of course the medication which is almost $200) I do think it is money well spent, and once back on my feet I hope to get a job with health insurance to cover it. If you really have no money, you should find out what plans your state may offer. You might even try a free clinic. Another option might be to try St. John's Wort. St. John's Wort (which can be bought in any drugstore without a prescription) is also known to help with mild or medium depression. Make sure to research the different brands because it is not approved by the FDA and so there are no set standards as to the amount each brand must contain and so many of the brands vary. I think the Boston Globe ran a story recently rating the different brands.

Keep reading posts here. Alot of people can offer insight as to what worked for them.

I know this probably didn't help too much, but I hope it helped you a little. Good Luck.
