domestic abuse and depression

I have been in a verbally abusive relationship that has made me depressed. I have been yelled at, been called names, and threatened with violence (he has threatened to kill me). My boyfriend flies into rages unexpectedly and without provacation. Then he apologizes and promises never to do it again. I am finally am talking to a therapist, and I recently went on an anti-depressant. It has taken me a long time to be able to admit that things were never going to change. I have become isolated from almost all of my friends and family.

I left my boyfriend but am deeply hurt and emotionally scarred. I have no self-esteem left. Has anyone been in a similiar situation and if so, how did you get back your life and self-esteem.
