: Dear Diabetic,
: I have been diabetic for 36 years and have gone through 2 pregnancies. The first one almost ended in disaster because I went to my family doctor who didn't know much about what he was doing. I waited for about 8 years before attempting it again. At that time, I found a team of specialists at a hospital 80 miles away from where I lived. It was well worth the drive because each time I would see a dietician, a diabetic nurse specialist, an Endocrinologist, and an obstetrician all during the same visit.
: I started with strict control of my diabetes before I got pregant, and then with the help of all these professionals, stayed that way throughout my pregnancy and delivery. It was such a good experience and the medical staff became very good friends in the process.
: Thanks to God, I have two great children with no health problems. I wish you the best.
Thanks Kitty for answering some questions. How are you doing now? How old are you and how long did you have diabetes before you became pregnant? Sometimes I have a difficult time keeping my BG under control. How much more difficult is it when you are pregnant? Also signs of retinopathy after having diabetes for 25 years. Did you have any signs of diabetes-related problems before you became pregnant either time? Thanks for some well-appreciated advice and information.
