: My name is Desiree. I am 21 years old, my father is a very brittle diabetic. He has severe neuropothy,he is on dialysis treatments 3 times a week. The dialysis isn't really helping him as much as it should.I know he probably doesn't have that much longer,I know this should be easier for me because he has been sick all my life......but to be honest I am scared to death and can't really express to him how I feel.He doesn't talk about his illness and I think maybe he should.I am the oldest of three and I also think my father's illness has deeply effected my 15 year old brother.I guess I am looking for someone to talk to......someone who is going through this or another diabetic to help me talk to my father....anyone.

Desiree, so sorry for your problem. You should talk to your dad's doctor or at least some nurse at the hospital. They can probaby put you in touch with someone to help you. There is a lot of help out there, you just have to know where to go to get it. This is too big a burden for a 21 year old and now you're worried about your brother. You need to ask for help from someone. This is too heavy a load for you to carry alone. You'll be surprised how much better you'll feel. We're all the same when you get right down to it and we all need help at some point in our lives. If there is no one to help you in your family seek it elsewhere. Good luck. Hope you feel better.
