Hello Anita,

if by "legs swelling" you mean fluid retention around your ankles etc., please get her checked by a doctor to rule out the possibility of kidney failure. My father is type 2 diabetic and had massive swollen legs --> diagnosed with chronic kidney failure. It might not be this in your mum's case, but it is best to check. Diabetes can damage a whole host of organs.
