Hi Margaret,

I've only been researching pumps for a couple of weeks now. The Minimed and Disetronic seem to be the most popular. I e mailed Disetronic and they sent me an info package (which I got yesterday and haven't really looked at yet) including a video.

I don't really know enough about them yet to be able to answer any questions... I do know that they use Humilog, which is a MUCH faster acting insulin. They give a 'basal' rate of insulin, which is continuous, and you give yourself a 'bolus' of insulin whenever you eat. Seems to me that a pump is the closest I'll ever get to having a functioning pancreas!

Hey, you'd be able to eat a piece of fudge every now and then! You'd just 'bolus' for it!

I'm going to talk to my endo about going on Humilog first and going from two injections a day to three, to see if it does my hypo episodes any good (before lunch on Thursday I was at 1.8 and didn't even FEEL it coming on...), and if it does I'll think about the pump. Problem is tho that it's VERY expensive. 5 grand here in Canada...

Sue
