: MY HUSBAND WAS A DIABETIC FOR 15 YEARS, AND HAD NO PROBLEMS WITH THIS DISEASE AS LONG AS HE ATE REGULARLY. HE STARTED TAKING THIS MEDICATION FOR HIS DIABETIS. OUR DOCTOR WAS THOROUGH AND CHECKED FOR LIVER PROBLEMS EACH MONTH. HOWEVER, ON JAN 4, 2000 MY HUSBAND DIED JUST 3 DAYS AFTER OUR 36 ANNIVERSARY. THE AUTOPSY SHOWED HEART RELATED PROBLEMS AS CAUSE OF DEATH. IN MARCH THE FDA REMOVED THIS DRUG FROM MARKET AS THERE WERE SEVEN LIVER RELATED DEATHS. IN MAY IT WAS FOUND THAT PERHAPS MORE PEOPLE HAD DIED FROM HEART RELATED PROBLEMS THAN LIVER RELATED. MY QUESTION IS "HAS ANYONE ELSE OUT THERE LOST SOMEONE THEY LOVE DUE TO COMPLICATIONS OF THE DRUG REZULIN?" PLEASE TALK TO ME IF YOU KNOW OF SOMEONE.

I do not know anyone personally that died as the result of taking Rezulin. Of course, it was withdrawn from distribution because of the liver problems it caused which sometimes were fatal.

You should know that Diabetes is a major risk factor for heart disease, and since your doctor was checking your husband monthly, the cause of his death may not have been Rezulin itself. The heart disease itself may have been the cause even if your husband was not taking Rezulin. Heart disease is the #1 killer of both men and women.
