: i have an enlarged heart & congestive heart failure but due to my mannny meds, i'm doing ok. recently went on insulin. anyhow, my doc tells me to drink a lot of water because my BUN is up. but i don't like water & drink a lot of diet iced tea, which she doesn't want me to do. why?

My guess is that it contains caffeine. Most heart patients have to eliminate caffeine (examples, regular coffee, tea, processed chocolate, colas, over-the-counter cold remedies, etc.). However, some heart patients are allowed to consume a small amount of caffeine per day.

As you may or may not know, Diabetes is a major risk factor for heart disease.

Unless you can find a diet decaffinated tea, my wife hates decaffinated tea, I might suggest Crystal Light Lemonade or one of the other flavors offered by them. It meets the requirements of a diabetic and tastes good too.

Ken
