Don't be discouraged the scale is a horrible way to gauge your progress. It is better to use references like the way you feel or how you clothes fit. If you want I'm sure your gym can test you bodyfat percentage which is a great way to gauge progress. Your friends are somewhat right about the fat and muscle. See a pound of muscle weighs the same as a pound of fat it just takes up less space. so if you change out a pound of fat for a pound of muscle you will be physically smaller but weigh the same. Good luck, keep up the good work and don't worry about the scale
