: I have been having severe abdominal pain for a year in April and so far doctors have been unable to diagnose what is wrong with me. I had my gallbladder removed this past summer which although it was full of stones has done nothing to help the pain. I went to a specialist in Boston who thinks I either have a stone in my bile duct or a problem with the muscle at the opening of my duct. Either way he wants me to have an ERCP. I am only 19 and for my age group he says the risk is 20%. To me thats sounds really high. If you have had an ERCP and could rest my mind at all please let me know what it was like. I am emotionally and physically worn out and I really want to solve this. I have every other test possible...please help me with my decision. Thank you!

I just had an ERCP on Thursday. They cleaned out some small stones from my bile duct
and made some "cuts". I too was worried about the risks of pancreatitis but everything
turned out ok. Not to alarm you either, but better knowing the truth, the procedure was
somewhat uncomfortable (from what I can remember). Either I wasn't sedated enough
or something. I also had a sore throat for a few days and stuck to soft foods but am
recovering ok. I had it done in Boston too. Who is your Doc if you don't mind my asking.
