: I'm 28 years old and am having gallbladder surgery Monday morning. The doctor says I have gallstones. I'm very nervous about having this done, can anybody tell me what to expect before and afterwards? The doctor explained the procedure to me but I like to hear from someone whose had this done.

I had my gallbladder taken out in June of last year laproscopically. Please don't worry about the surgery...I was extremely scared and it wasn't as bad as I expected. I have four small (less than an inch long) scars on my stomach...2 really little ones on my right side, 1 horizontally accross the top of my stomach, and one in my belly button (this one was the sorest since my jeans button right there) which healed up completely in a few weeks. After the surgery I took a 2 hour drive to go home to my mothers house (I am in college) which wasn't the smartest idea, the bumps on the road hurt, but I felt surprisingly okay. I had to sleep on my back for seeming forever though which was a pain, literally, because my back killed after a week or so. I suggest putting a pillow under your knees if you have to sleep on your back.
Since my surgery I have had continued problems but please don't let this worry you too much. I figure if you have looked around the site at all you have read about post-gallbladder horror stories but mine isn't directly related to my surgery as of yet. One thing is for sure I definately would not want my gallbladder to still be there!
Good luck on Monday...I hope you get this before you go. I had to stay over night since my surgery was in the afternoon but most people go home that day. Let me know how it went and if you have any questions.
