Last year i started getting really bad heartburn, nausea and pain in my left abdomen. I went in, got it checked(god i hate Barium) and was diagnosed with GERD. Your definitely not alone, and I'm noticing that a lot of people arround your age and mine(I'm 21) have this disease. I've met at least 3 people at college who have it. I know there is a surgery for GERD, but my doc told me that i should'nt even concider it for a while. If you can control it through diet and some acid blockers, that is best. Other then the things you mentioned, the only other tips i can give are not to eat large meals(I tend to burp up food/acid, and not to eat a lot of fat. Oh and you should probably get checked out for athsma as well, the two conditions are linked sometimes....good luck
