: Dear Tami...I think you have very good reason to worry about a normal pregnancy with all that you have been through, but I hope so much that you can relax and just know that if your baby does in fact have DS that you will love him/her just the same way you love your other two children. It makes me sad to hear that you are so worried because these special children are born...for some unknown reason...with this abnormality...and it may mean a more difficult life for the baby and you...but take it from me, a DS baby will touch your heart and make you melt because they need your love so much. I have two boys and my third boy has DS. I did not know he had it. He has already had to have heart surgery. He is fine and is the light of our life. His smile melts me every time I see it. I will pray for you for peace. Best of luck to you.
I, too, had an abnormal triple screen. My husband and I were dead set against an amnio and opted to have a level II. The u/s indicated 4 possible markers: 1, cyst on brain, 2, thickness on back of neck, 3, dialated kidneys, and 4, a white spot on the heart.
After talking with some family & close friends, we decided to go ahead with the amnio. What really changed our mind was hearing about people who did not know until the baby was born and the baby needed to be whisked away due to a medical emergency. We didn't what that to happen. WE felt we "needed" to be "prepared". Well, the amnio came back positive. I just had a fetal echocardiogram and I'm happy to say, the baby's heart looks good. There does not appear to be a heart defect.
WE have been doing a lot of research, and I am looking forward to the birth of our baby.
