I have a young 5 yr old son w/DS. He goes to our school district's special ed program for young children for about 3 hrs/day. He has just begun biting. It started 4 wks ago, when he bit another child for the 1st time--really hard. Everyone was shocked--me, teachers,& other parents; mainly because he is so docile and non-aggressive. Well everyone thought it was a one-time thing. However, seems like he's been biting someone every week since the 1st incident. The scenario is always the same: outside, on the playgrd., w/apparently no provacation(even though tchers didn't see actual biting), and subsequent time-out.
I am so down about this--and do not know how to handle it, considering Zac has never given me any trouble. He has a 3 yr old non-DS brother, and has never bitten him. Friends and family advise me to bite him really hard, but I just can't bring myself to do that--yet.
Has anyone been through this? Any comments would be greatly appreciated. E-mail me directly if anyone wishes. My heart is so heavy right now, since I don't understand what's going on with my little boy. Thanks, MC.
