My name is Michele and I'm a 29 year old Mother of two young sons. They are not DOWN SYNDROME children nor are they mentally challenged in any way.
I was curious if any of you could help me.
I would LOVE so much to become involved in helping out with MENTALLY CHALLENGED children. I hope MENTALLY CHALLENGED is the "correct" way to describe children with mental disabilities. I don't mean to offend anyone if it's not. Down syndrome children seem to be the ones I'm most drawn to, because of their VERY LOVING NATURE, THEIR PURE HEART, AND THEIR HAPPINESS.
I would have LOVED to have went to school and maybe have went into the teaching field. Unfortunately I didn't discover my desire to work with handicap children until about 5 years ago. I currently work at GENERAL MOTORS on the assembly line and I enjoy it and it makes a very comfortable living. So that is MY CAREER for life. However, I just wonder if there is Someway I could contribute to what I feel so passionately about, working with handicapped children.
Maybe someone could give me some suggestions. I would surely appreciate them.
In closing I would like to commend allofyou parents out there who have been "blessed" with a Down Syndrome child. I know it must be very challenging at times, and I believe it takes a strong and very committed person to raise such a child. I am sure though it is also very rewarding.
Again I thank you for any help you can offer to me.
