: : Hello,
: : I just wanted to tell everyone to pay attention to how your children "re-act" to the classes they are taking in school.
: : I have an 8 yr old daughter with Down's and 3 years ago they did a psychological exam to determine her IQ and wether she was EMH or TMH. She tested with a 57 IQ which was just above the cutoff for TMH putting her in the EMH catagory. She did ok for two years in school (probably because the classes she had were well staffed), but in this last year she had a terrible time. She came home angry and frustrated--often she had potty accidents at school which she did not have at home, and she just didn't act like the happy child she was before. To add to the problem, she can't talk yet, so we could not find out what was going on or what she was mad about.
: : We thought, for most of the year, that it might have been a personality conflict between her and the teacher. We tried all year to move her to another class or another school-but to no avail. The school kept telling us that an EMH class is an EMH class, and moving her was not the answer.
: : Finally, just two weeks ago, she was retested. They conduct the psycological exam every three years, and it was time again for it. Well, come to find out, that the examiner called us with the results and stated that she has no idea how anyone could have tested her at a 57 IQ and she is well below the cutoff for EMH and should have been in TMH classes for the last 3 years.
: : So, if your child gets into a new class and begins acting like they are having a problem---they probably are. So please, for their sake--watch for the signs and ask questions of the school--they are worth it!
: : Thank you for your time!
: Thank you Brandi good info my daughter is 4 and does not talk yet either and I will remember this advise. I know my wife wants her to advance like everyone else but this will good for her to see. One question though what does EMH,TMH stand for. Thanks again for the useful information Tim
