In Reply to: AFP3 Test, comes back positive for Downs Syndrom. posted by Mary on June 28, 2000 at 22:57:43:

Mary..

Since I had a child with Down Syndrome almost 7 yrs ago..I have had about 4-5 people come to me saying that had a positive AFP test and the child was born without Down Syndrome and one that had one after I had Reenie..and she and her husband decided to keep the baby because of my daughter and how "typical" to any other child. Your test may be correct..but from the people that I have met that test has a high inaccuracy rate...remember it can detect down syndrome..but it is not an accurrate test for it. Best of luck to you...just to let you know..my daughter has been nothing but a joy to me and because of her I went back to college and I am now an RN.
