: My husband and I are expected a child in December. we have been told that our child has a condition called Down Syndrome.
: Any comments or words of encouragement, experience are welcome.
: we are reading all we can about this condition and have seen a specialist but would like to connect with other parents of children with Down Syndrome.
: Thank You Lee, Hi to Lee and her husband, Although I am not a parent of a D.S. child, I am the proud Nana of a D.S. grandaughter. My daughter and husband did not know until April was born . So it was initially a shock. April is now 3, and the absolute love of "all" our lives. She functions and is treated just like all the other children. Except, she is still willing to give big hugs most of the time. April has taught us all not to take every little thing for granted. April did have heart surgery which was traumatic for the whole family. But we survived that as she did. At the moment she is learning to swim and loves the water. Looking in on the "immediate" family, I truly believe the best thing my daughter and son-in-law did was to get very involved in the local Downs Assoc. They were truly the people who helped her the most. Far more then the medical people. She changed pediatricians a couple of times. The networking they do within the assoc. is remarkable. They share pertinent info that has exposed April to many classes that have benefitted her. Good luck to you, and I'll be thinking special thoughts for you in December. Lesley
