Both of my children have DS (ages 6 and 8) and have had numerous surgeries, including dental surgery. They have always had the breathing tube and have done fine. Talk to the anestisist before the surgery and tell them your concerns. Also, make sure you ask the Doc about any antibiotics that might be needed a couple of days before surgery, especially if your child has any heart problems. Dental surgery is the "dirtiest" surgery they do, because of all of the bacteria in your mouth. If your child has a cold, runny nose, etc. they will probably postpone the surgery.
