I have a 19 month old son with Down syndrome. I would not say there are "symptoms" of DS, but rather characteristics. Look for: low muscle tone ("floppier" arms and legs than usual), eyes that will slant upward, an extra space between the big toe and the other four toes, a Simean crease in the palm of each hand or one hand (a line that goes directly across the center of the palm instead of curving up and down like your hands), extra skin covering the back of the neck, ears that might be a little thicker on the top lobe, shorter, stubbier fingers, mottled skin that looks especially splotchy, slow growth and slow weight gain. These are some of the characteristics. A child with DS may exhibit one or all of these characteristics. My son has all of these, as well as some serious medical conditions that have been and are being treated. I wish you luck and peace of mind!
Amy
