Hi!
I work with a child who has Down Syndrome in my before and after school program. He is seven years old and is in a class with eleven other children. I do not know what I can and cannot expect of him. When we sit and read a story, he generally does well with that. He will wash his hands to sit and eat nicely and plays on the playground with other very well. But, when its raining or bad weather and we need to remain indoors and have choice time for any length of time - from five to forty five minutes, its pure chaois. He gets into things he knows he is not allowed into, tries to run around the room, etc. I have not been able to find anything in my ten-twelve times I have spent with him to interest him enough so that he will behave. What can I do?
