My sister went to the doctor today and the MD told her that her fetal protein showed she likely had a downs baby. She is scheduled for an amnicentesis 10/20. Her first child was born 4 years ago. After her birth, the doctor told us that she had either downs or turners syndrome. She had a webbed neck, short stature, simian crease, and frankly "didn't look normal. We were all devistated. We took her for genetic tests, with no real answers found. We were told that she "might be a mosaic". Well today, she is a beautiful, child with ABOVE normal intelligence. She still has a short stature, "stubby fingers, and keeps an upper respiratory ailment and a pug nose. My questions are:
1- Was the first baby a "suppose to be downs baby"
2. Is downs inherited?
3. Is the mother at risk of having multiple downs births?
4. is their any other tests to determine if it is downs, turners or to differentiate the diseases?
Please answer as soon as you can-
