I would suggest going to a hospital that has a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, just as a precaution. I was 38 when I was pregnant with my daughter, Kimberlee, who was born with DS. She
had no complications at birth and has done extremely well. We did request an echocardiogram before leaving the hospital to ensure that her heart was okay. She did have to have one surgery at one week of age, due to an intestinal blockage,
which she came through just fine. I, as you did,
opted not to have the amnio due to the risk factor. I would make the same decision a thousand times over with no regrets. I can't imagine life without our wonderful little girl!
Good luck and may God bless you and yours!
