: I have been abusing laxatives on and off for the past three years now. I have stopped a few times and would be able to go back to moving my bowels regularly. Now this last time it became hard. The doctor told me to drink plenty of water and eat a lot of fiber, but even then my stomach was constantly cramped and bloated. I felt that I had no choice but to return to laxatives. My question is this, will I ever be able to move my bowels on my own again? Please somebody let me know. This is like torture and it is also scary for me.

Hello,
I think you realize that you are dipping into some rough waters:) You need to stop using laxatives NOW. My advice is to yes, drink water and eat a whole grain cereal high in fiber for b-fast(TOTAL is best). There is a product called MSM you can get at GNC or online-take that (about 3000mgs/day) with a multi-vitamin. MSM is a detoxifier for the body and hel;ps with GI distress. If that doesn't help after a week or so- see your doctor. Hope that helps
